Kate Franklin has lost confidence in her ability to find a job after two years of staying at home to look after her son. Now she wants to find part time work that she will enjoy so every day this week 9am has organised experts to help her achieve her goal.
In today's segment Kate met psychologist Jodie Benveniste, who advised Kate on dealing with the many competing demands working parents face, and 9am's Arianne Spratt gave Kate some time saving tips for preparing family meals.
Parent Wellbeing
As parents, we’re told to ‘look after ourselves’. But who has the time? We spend so much time caring for others we have no energy left to care for ourselves. Feeling overloaded means our wellbeing suffers, and we’re not as attentive and engaging with our kids.
Parent Wellbeing helps parents increase their wellbeing so parents and kids benefit.
Jodie's tips are:
1. Enjoy your work.
2. Kids will be happy if you are happy.
3. Focus on the positive.
Psychologist, Jodie Benveniste, is the author of numerous freelance articles, many more academic papers, and three books including Woman, work, child: Women talk about balancing work and family, Simon & Schuster, 1998 and Sustainability: The corporate challenge for the 21st century, Allen & Unwin, 2000.
Arianne Spratt is a working mum and understands how hard it can be to find enough time at the end of the day to cook nutritious meals for the family.
Arianne's tips are:
1. Prepare stocks to use in soups, casseroles, bolognaise, risottos.
2. Clear out your pantry.
3. Blanch and freeze vegies.
4. Assemble a large salad and leave it in the fridge to be nibbled on.
5. Cook in bulk and freeze.
